FAQs

Do I have to have a DSLR to attend the basic photography class?  Is a point-and-shoot ok?

You do not have to own a DSLR camera to benefit from the class.  Many point-and-shoots made today have all the manual controls that you need to creatively work with photography.  However, if you do have a point-and-shoot, you will want to make sure you are able to change your ISO, Shutter Speed and Aperture (f-stop).  If you aren’t sure, refer to your manual or give us a call and we can help.

What is covered in the class?

You will learn how to get past the “auto” or “program” mode in your camera and learn the basics of how to be creative in manual mode, how to improve your competition and control depth of field.  We also review white balance, focus modes that will improve your sports photography, and semi-automatic modes & more!

Dallas classes are held at 3010 LBJ Freeway, Suite 1200, Dallas, Texas  75234.  Directions Here.  Or you may call 972-888-6000.

Fort Worth classes are held at 251 Town Center Lane, Suite 2109, Keller, Texas  76248.  Directions Here.  Or you may call 817-899-8280.

Safaris are held at different locations.  Please check the scheduling calendar for where the meet up place is happening.  You will also receive an email reminder 24 hours prior to your safari with details.

What should we bring to the classes and safaris?

For the Photography Classes, you will only need a small pad of paper for notes and a pen.  We provide a booklet of the material we cover that is full of great info, however, you may want to jot down a few Q&As.  Also plan on bringing your camera, charged battery, and memory card.

For the photo editing Classes, you will be provided a step-by-step guide to everything that is covered.  You may bring your laptop if you wish, but our experience has been better with participants following the program without laptops.  Often participants with laptops are focused on their computer and may miss a step and get a little lost.  Since the notes that are provided are geared to enable you to do everything at home, it may be better to just annotate those notes instead.  However, we don’t mind if you would rather bring it along!

For Safaris, you will need your camera, charged battery, and memory card(s) (of course!) and a tripod.  If you do not have a tripod, we have a few for rent ($5) on a first-come, first-serve basis.

What happens in case of bad weather?

We do not hold safaris with weather that can be hazardous, or damaging to our equipment.  You will be able to reschedule if the weather is not acceptable.

How much walking is involved in the safaris?

Our safaris usually do not entail much walking at all, around .5 miles would be the most, but we are on our feet for 1.5 to 2 hours.

How many people attend each of your safaris/classes?

We keep the participant numbers low so there is time for the safari leader(s) to work with participants.  Classes can range from 14 to 25 people.
